For this Obedient Scribe, the Symbolism of the Butterfly?s life cycle describes the progress of the human soul from birth into the material world, through the development of the material consciousness, and then finally culminating in the transition to Transcendental Consciousness by the means of the Second Birth. The chrysalis, or metamorphosis, represents the stage of dying to one form of consciousness and the rebirthing in another to a world of vaster comprehension. However, when we discuss this future to the caterpillar it replies, ?The caterpillar world is all I know. You must be hallucinating.?
It is like expecting the caterpillar to be enthusiastic about dissolving so a butterfly can emerge. The discussion is meaningless to caterpillars who have no glimpse of a Reality beyond mere material consciousness. Its reality and values are rooted in the material world. The reality of the butterfly is quite beyond the comprehension of the caterpillar and is meaningless to the caterpillar. Arguments between the two philosophies are largely a waste of time because there is no agreement of basic understandings.
This is the backbone situation of human evolution. This is the foundational situation--the point of choice: Will they choose to evolve consciously through responsible choice? Will they choose to participate consciously in more inclusive levels of reality interactions? Will they seek a higher quality of consciousness? Or will they drift into the Crucible and be subjected to very difficult and trying experiences that act as a refining or hardening process?
So, I ask you; How can this Scribe be helpful?
PS Summary We use the Butterfly Life Cycle as a Metaphor for human change and mental growth. At some point in development, the visible person has been transformed and has entered a different consciousness. Awakening, by definition, involves the arousing of an entirely new capacity; it is not a question of degree, but of awakening to a new dimension of consciousness. The passing over or rebirth is the Key and cannot be circumscribed by attempting to divine what it is.
Humans in their present state are not a viable species, they are a transitional species.
There is some debate over nature vs. nurture?do they let Darwinian determinism decide their fate or do they consciously take an active part in their mental evolution?
To stay as a caterpillar to serve humanity is to fool oneself. Only by awakening can this service take on a new light.
(Note: the Symbolism of the Butterfly?s life cycle is a useful and adequate metaphor for the concept of Enlightenmen.)
The reality and values of the butterfly has a significance and value utterly different from that conceived by the caterpillar and quite beyond its comprehension. The butterfly philosophy and consciousness are meaningless to the caterpillar. Can the caterpillar have a meaningful conversation with the butterfly? Probably not.
Can the butterfly have a meaningful conversation with the caterpillar? Possibly. The caterpillar consciousness is not necessarily meaningless to the butterfly as the butterfly has the experience of the transition. Arguments between the two philosophies can be productive if the butterfly is empathetic. One can comprehend the caterpillar world from within the integration of a Higher Consciousness.
The conundrum is that The Awakened butterfly knows the inadequacy of the caterpillar perception, but cannot prove this to the caterpillar. On the other hand, the caterpillar cannot grasp the reality of the butterfly unless the caterpillar itself, awakens. There must be a realm where the two philosophies can meet in a sort of Learning and Teaching at the edge. Is such a concept possible? A Big Brother who goes to high school would not knock a brother or sister who is in kindergarten. The question is always how to provide help when asked or assist in a rescue. Which response is best for a Butterfly-Teacher?
The chrysalis stage A caterpillar?s body melts into a chaotic soup of molecules and cells as it begins to undergo the process of metamorphosis. The end-result of this dissolution is a disorganized mishmash of pieces of the life that once was, bearing no resemblance to the caterpillar that had formerly occupied that space in the world. Bearing no resemblance, either, to the butterfly that is yet to be born.
This is a fearsome prospect for the caterpillar as it will lose its identity as a caterpillar and not knowing what it will become has no control over the outcome. The ?Doomsday? interpretation of the butterfly effect seems to have distracted us from the positive lessons that can be drawn from this process.
The idea of dying to one form only to emerge in another, higher form causes stress. It is natural that the caterpillar nature should dread all this believing that death is an end of its identity. How can it comprehend the world of the butterfly which it will soon enter?
Law of down but not up One cannot challenge the certainty of a Person who has attained Self-Recognition, but one can only challenge His expression but not the Root-Knowledge.
It is utterly useless to challenge the basic Knowledge of a Person who has awakened to a new level of consciousness.
The non-seeing Person cannot successfully challenge the fact of a seen world for those who can see it. Translations are required for the conceptual frameworks of the lower consciousness and some with intelligence might understand.
The basic idea of readiness of the ?student? and appropriateness of the ?lesson? are considered. The ancient esoteric principle that whatever is taught must be adapted to the level of understanding of the person or persons concerned. When we relate/write our innermost thoughts to others, we are always conscious of their level of understanding. What we are about to say to them will mean different things to their different states of Knowing. (SCP) (Salem Syndrome). (Hourglass Species)
